Grand Haven Plastics receives recognition for their Safety Smart Delineator

Better Roads Magazine has identified the Safety Smart Delineator which is manufactured by Grand Haven Plastics, as one of the 50 most important new products for 2007.

The Top 50 products were selected from a field of over 600 new products introduced to the highway and bridge industry this past year.

Earlier this year, Grand Haven Plastics was awarded Second Place for New Product Innovation by the American Traffic Safety Services Association at their annual conference in San Antonio, TX.

The Safety Smart Delineator is three-part injection molded post with a 3"x 8.375" reflective sheeting attached at the top. It is intended to replace the current metal posts with reflective buttons that are used along highways and exit ramps.

The Safety Smart Delineator features a shear pin that breaks when impacted, thereby causing minimal damage to the delineator post or the vehicle. The shear pins require no special tools, equipment or training to replace and cost only $0.28 each, making the delineators very economical to use.

The Safety Smart Delineator is currently approved by seven State Department of Transportations including Michigan, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Maine, Maryland and New York. The Delineator is also being used by several Toll Road Authorities including: Colorado E-470, New Jersey Garden State Parkway, New York Thruway Authority and the Kansas Turnpike Authority.

Grand Haven Plastics, Inc. Earns Roadway Safety Industry Honors

Grand Haven Plastics, Inc. received a 2nd place award during the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) 37th Annual Convention and Traffic Expo in San Antonio, Texas, for their Safety Smart Delineator.

The Safety Smart Delineator is a three part system designed to breakaway upon impact with a vehicle. The components are a Polypropylene post, a Xenoy™ stake and a Glass-Filled nylon shear pin which holds the post to the stake. Upon impact, the only component that needs to be replaced is the shear pin at an approximate cost of 28 cents each. No special tools, equipment or training is needed to replace the shear pin. The Safety Smart Delineator is intended to replace the current metal posts with reflective buttons and also flexible posts, which are used along roadways. Grand Haven Plastic's goal is to use up to 50% recycled content to produce this product.

ATSSA Innovation Awards were developed four years ago to recognize companies that have created new, innovative products that help save lives on roadways. Public officials from the roadway safety industry judge and select the winners who focus on known roadway safety problems while considering the cost effectiveness of their product, as well as the products' potential for saving lives.
